Sorry for being off topic, but I am just starting my website/blog. Why did you choose Wordpress over blogger or any other blog program? I am trying to figure out the best way, since I am not a techy.

      Hi Akiko,
If you do a search for “Wordpress vs. Blogger” you will get many different opinions that tend to be very subjective. I copied one of the post that seems to give you a good list of Pros and Cons of each so I hope this helps.

Wordpress vs. Blogger Pros and Cons
by ADMIN on JANUARY 8, 2010
      Hey guys,
I’m probably a bit different than most of you in that I don’t ignore Google completely. I still set up my site with SEO best practices out of the box regardless but I do hold off on the SEO promotions for a few months. In order to really automate things, it’s nice to get good rankings for decent terms as well. That happens naturally through what Peter teaches. Also if you can add traditional SEO to the solid base of nanoblogging imagine the traffic you will get! Makes for a nice formula.
Most important though is that your site converts. If it doesn’t convert, who cares where it’s hosted?
Just to add to this thread to maybe help people make a decision about which platform to use, in my opinion, here are the pros and cons of using Wordpress vs. Blogger:
(This is speaking IN GENERAL and in light of any future SEO benefit of using Wordpress or Blogger. As a rule, some markets are easier than others no matter what platform you use).
      Wordpress
      Pros
? Branding – you’re able to have a clean presence without the blogger toolbar and a clean URL. People respect “real” sites a little bit better.
? Unlimited design potential and versatility. You can literally do anything you want with wordpress.
      ? Awesome knowledgebase and support.
? You can build pages outside of your posts, can’t with blogger. Which creates a better user experience if that matters to your market.?Wordpress.com is their Blogger-like service that you can even use with your own domain. This could be an easy start for some who don’t want to host their own. Makes transferring from Wordpress.com to a self-hosted option easier. (I would stay away from this. Wordpress.com sites struggle to get rankings, even if you use your own domain).
? Long term SEO is awesome. Google loves wordpress sites (not wordpress.com sites). They create solid rankings and they keep their SEO value over time. You build all your SEO links to your domain.
      Cons
? Much much bigger learning curve (but well worth it). Almost anyone that makes money online knows wordpress and you will too. It’s just a bit more learning in the beginning. If you host your own, you’ll need to learn the basics of web hosting and domain management (not too difficult. Sites like Hostmonster make it easy).
? Slower to rank. In my experience as an SEO professional, new wordpress sites on a new domain are more difficult to get new rankings with (a la effing Google sandbox). That’s why we ignore Google for the first few months while the domain ages. Rankings take longer with Wordpress but in my opinion, they have a longer shelf life once they get their rankings. The rankings are stickier. (Remember, each market is different, this is talking in general).
? Cost. If you want to host your own wordpress site, you’ll need to buy a domain and a hosting account. That’s not usually going to break the bank but it may be an issue. Hostmonster ($7.95/month and a $9 domain from Namecheap.com is what I use for most of my stuff). Only need one hosting account for unlimited amount of domains (I use 15 sites per hosting account).
? If you want to build your site for long term stability, you’ve got to take great care to protect your domain, your hosting account (IP address mainly) and your registrar. You don’t ever want to do anything stupid or risky, unless you like black hats and Google’s black list.
      Blogger
      Pros
? Extremely simple. Set up is in minutes or seconds even. Learning curve is about thirty minutes to an hour total, even if you’re new.
? Blogger is served up by Google, and yes, that does matter. Google takes more care of its own even though they say they don’t. The sandbox is ALMOST non-existent here. I typically get good rankings in about 5-7 days after hammering the site with links from everywhere, which on any other blogging platform would get you an immediate SEO death (you DO NOT EVER want to do some mass link building with a wordpress site unless you want to get permanently sandboxed).
? Rankings are fast and easy, even on moderately competitive search terms. I use Blogger to set up Clickbank sites and you can get solid rankings on decent keywords in a couple days. Can’t do that very easily with Wordpress (obviously this isn’t an exact science and no two markets are the same, some are easy others aren’t no matter what platform you use).
? You can create a small army of these things rather quickly. Outsourcing is super simple as well with Blogger. It’s not hard to teach a Filipino how to use Blogger.
? You don’t care about getting sandboxed because you can have another site up in minutes. You do have to watch your IP address. If you have too many blogspot accounts you might draw a red flag. Using proxy IP addresses (borrowed IP addresses you reroute your web activity through) is a subject for another day but a very important one.
      ? FREE.99
      Cons
? Branding. It’s more difficult to create a unique identity on blogger. You typically use the blogspot domain, which hurts you a bit when direct linking. You can change your URL with a CNAME. I’ve tested that and it hasn’t improved rankings for me so I haven’t bothered with it much in the past. I can see it affecting how people perceive your site though so you might take a small hit on conversions, a small hit.
? There’s not as much support.
? Design is limited. Templates aren’t as abundant. They’re built mostly in XML/HTML which isn’t as easy for or widely used as HTML/PHP.
? Your SEO efforts are somewhat limited because you don’t own the domain (can’t do most directory links, etc). Also, you’re helping to build link juice for blogspot.com and not your own straight domain.
? I might have missed a few pros or cons. Honestly, in my mind it’s this simple: if you’re new at internet marketing use Blogger. If you’re a vet, use Wordpress. You can always learn Wordpress once you’re making money.
? Biggest benefit with blogger, you can hammer all kinds of promotions right out of the box. I’ve tested this over and over. That’s the major difference in my mind.

One important thing I like about blog articles is this: they provoke a thought in my brain. And once that happens, I feel as I need to write a comment expecting it may be useful to other people.

To get listed in online web directory for free, Choose your preferred page by browsing through the different categories and click on the ‘get listed free’ link. Fill up the form and get listed. You can also go for multiple submissions from ‘Get Listed Free’ link in the header of every page. Just search with your preferred keyword under preferred category and see a list of pages being displayed. Now, choose the pages matching your website and submit your URL. The last and the easiest option to get listed in OWD is to search with your keyword in the search box and choose the most appropriate page. Give your listing and wait for our editors to approve it. Please don’t forget to go through our submission rules before submission.

You are 100% on the money! Most people I see view things in the short run and try to take every opportunity to promote or hype themselves instead of building credibility by helping others achieve their goals.

Can I just say what a relief to discover an individual who actually knows what theyre talking about on a internet. You genuinely know how to bring an difficulty to light and make it important. Far more men and women have to read this and realize this side of the story. I cant believe youre not much more popular mainly because you really have the gift.
